I watched a video tutorial on the new updated ACR, can not remember where/what forum it was on, but it went over the new tools it offers. I downloaded the new one, but do not see anything really new except for noise. Is it because I use elements 6 and not a CSX? Is there more tools in ACR when used with the CS3 or 4 vs elements? Also, what is the camera profile tab about?
Thanks Daniel |

Hi Daniel,
Unfortunately, I don't know a few of your questions as I don't use Elements, so I'm not familiar with them. I also don't know what "CSX" is. Here is a good start on tutorials: Adobe Camera Raw Please tell me where you are seeing the "camera profile tab" there are a few areas that give camera information such as: as shot, or specific ICC information. -tony your host |

I meant CSX as in CS2,3 or 4. Thanks for the link, I looked at the overview ACR video and They are using CS3 ACR 4.4. In ACR there are adjustment tabs, those tabs are as follow: Basic, tone, Detail, HSL, split toning, lens corrections and camera calibration. When I open mine with elements I only have Basic, detail and camera calibration. I even think there are less features within each category. When I go to camera calibration it says camera profile underneth it with a drop down menu. In that menu it says ACR 4.4 and ACR 3.6. Is it giving me the option of which acr to use? Sorry if this is not coming out right, sometimes it is easier for me to talk and show than it is for me to write it out.

here is the latest update. Also I posted the .zip file for the DNG converter and RAW update. According to the tutorial all tabs will be visible once you have the latest updates and depending on the version of Photoshop you're using.
Camera Raw Update but really, if you don't have the latest package, try not to worry to much. You still have lots of tools available to you in the Elements versions. If its just a hobby, then use the tools you have, I feel you can do lots with what you have... if your trying to make a business out of it, then its a tool you'll need just like good camera equipment, so upgrade to CS3 (not CS4) I personally don't get into that section of the tabs, it's just not that necessary for me. I use the default tab (basics) to save-as from DNG (after conversion)(and some corrections) if I need to really adjust something I would work further into those areas in order to save an image I really thought was worth saving or I really wanted more special effects from. Otherwise I do everything else in th main photoshop work space. (as a jpeg) as always there is a ton of control with all the data that is available in a DNG file but in my opinion you should only need that if your image really needs a lot of help or you're really trying to get some special effects. I hope this helps. |

Yes i did download the latest version of ACR. Just thought it might be fun to play around with. Thanks for the help.
I did try saving as DNG, but when i did that, i could not open them with elements. So I just do my raw process and then save as a PSD. Does the DNG take up less room than a RAW/CR2 image? They both still have all the same info though correct? |
